APPLICATION FOR THE RIGHT TO COMPLETE NON-DEGREE STUDIES (FACULTY OF BIOLOGICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES)

The right to complete non-degree studies can be granted to persons who do not hold the right to complete a degree at the University of Helsinki and to persons who have previously completed a degree at the University of Helsinki and do not currently hold the right to complete a degree in a University of Helsinki faculty. Please see application instructions in the Faculty's website before filling out this form.

Applications must arrive in the spring by 15 April 2025 at 15.00 and in the autumn by 15 October 2025 at 15.00. Supplementary documents of the application should be submitted together with the electronic application form as attachments.

If you are applying for the right to complete non-degree studies in several faculties, you must submit a separate application form for each faculty.

It is possible to save the form and continue filling it later (partial submission, the text field in the end of the form). Please note however, that if your application remains incomplete and/or if the application attachments are not submitted by the end of the deadline the application will be considered incomplete and it will not be processed.

Decisions are announced to applicants in writing.

A) The application must be accompanied by a transcript of study and a study plan or statement confirmed by the university or educational institute indicating that the studies can be incorporated into the degree. NB! If you are pursuing a degree at another Finnish university, you should find out before applying whether you can apply for the right to pursue flexible studies (JOO studies) in the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences.

B) The application must be accompanied by a copy of the diploma for the degree or qualification and the transcript of study (unless the degree was completed at the University of Helsinki) and a statement from the employer or by another well-grounded account of the relevance of the studies to upgrading professional qualifications. *)

C) The application must be accompanied by a copy of the diploma for the degree or qualification and the transcript of study (unless the degree was completed at the University of Helsinki) and an account by the head of the research group, or a corresponding person, of the relevance of the studies to upgrading scientific qualifications.

*) NB! If you are applying for the right to complete studies in order to enhance your teaching qualifications and are currently completing or have already completed the pedagogical studies for teachers at an institution other than the University of Helsinki, you must also enclose a copy of the certificate or transcript for the pedagogical studies for teachers.

Possible further information

Please check that you have given all the information correctly before adding attachments to the application. It is no longer possible to edit the application once attachments have been added. When you are ready to add attachments and send your application, tick the box "I want to send an attachment / attachments" under "Proceed" at the bottom of the page and then press the button “Submit”. After that you will be able to add attachments. Note that maximum size for an individual attachment is 16 Mb (the total size of all attachments may however exceed 16 Mb). Press "Lähetä tiedosto" after adding each attachment. After you have added all the attachments press "Tallennus valmis".

If you are not able to attach documents to your application, please send all the attachments by email: viikki-student@helsinki.fi or on paper to the address:

Please note, that also the attachments have to reach the faculty office by the end of the application period. If you do not have attachments to add to your electronic application you can send the application form by pressing "Submit" at the bottom of the page under "Proceed".

NB! You will get a confirmation email to the email address you gave on the application form after you have submitted the electronic application. Save this email as a proof that you have submitted the application on time. If you do not get an email, it means you have not succeeded in sending the application or you have given an incorrect email address. If you have given your email address in your application and you do not get an email from the system after submitting the application, please contact bio-neuvonta@helsinki.fi before the application deadline.
