Background: The course will cover virulence and sporulation mechanisms in foodborne and clinically relevant pathogenic bacteria, including regulation, signaling, bacterial communities, pathogenesis and evolution. Emphasis will be placed on novel approaches and concepts in microbiology. This course will consist of a series of research lectures and methodology lectures, exposing students to new ways of addressing their hypotheses and conducting their research. It is a must-attend course for students working with bacteria to get a better understanding of the important questions in the field of microbiology.

Topics:

Bacterial systems biology & new approaches
Single-cell approaches & omics
Pathogenesis & infection
Regulation, signaling & transcriptional networks

Assignments: Each student registering to the course will be expected to give a 3-min Flash presentation about their own research work. In addition, at least 80% attendance at the lectures is compulsory.
