Survey on the uses of temperature terms

In my master thesis I study temperature term uses across different situations in different languages. To participate in the study, you have to fill in the survey which will take about 15-20 minutes of your time. You don’t have to have any special skills or knowledge about language. You can just answer the questions according to what feels natural to you in your own native language.

As a base of the survey I used ideas of the Guidelines for collecting linguistic expressions for temperature concepts: Version 1 (December 2007) by Maria Koptjevskaja-Tamm.

The study consists of four sections. In the first section I ask you to list some temperature terms in your native language. The next two sections are for imagining different kinds of situations where you might use these temperature terms. To help with this I created imaginary situations where you can decide whether you would use temperature terms in that kind of situations or not.

In every section, please think about what is the most natural way to say things in your native language and please don’t let the fact that the survey is in English to disturb you. The fourth section is for giving feedback and reflecting your answers: if it was hard or easy to fill in the survey and are you still sure about your answers.

Even if you spoke many languages, I wish you would fill in the form in your native language, that is, the language you are the most competent in.

The answers will be used for studying word uses only and every answer will be treated anonymously. It is voluntary to give your e-mail address – I will need it only in the case there is something about your answer I want to clarify.
