Section 89 of the Universities Act (558/2009) stipulates that docents must have good teaching skills. According to the Rector's decision HY/1333/00.00.06.00/2021 teaching skills are assessed when the title of docent is applied and a docent must have teaching skills as a whole assessed at least good. At the Faculty of Medicine the overall teaching skills are assessed by the Docentship Committee based on the teaching skills assessment matrix approved by the Faculty Council. As part of the assessment of overall teaching skills docentship applicants give a demonstration of teaching that is assessed based on the teaching demonstration assessment matrix approved by the Faculty Council. The assessment of overall teaching skills is based on the teaching merit report attached to the application documents as well as on the demonstration of teaching skills.
