The laboratory of Ville Paavilainen at the Institute of Biotechnology, University of Helsinki is looking for several graduate students and/or post-doctoral researchers for projects that investigate small-molecule natural product inhibitors of protein secretion and/or cell biological and biochemical roles of cotranslational ER translocation co-factors. The available projects are funded by a grant from the Academy of Finland and will be discussed in detail during the interview of selected candidates. University of Helsinki and Institute of Biotechnology provide an international and dynamic research environment. Facilities include state-of-the-art core facilities for structural biology (robotic crystallization, x-ray and NMR data collection, abundant access to European synchrotrons) and advanced microscopes.
Applicants with a strong background in either (1) cell biology and/or biochemistry or (2) structural biology and biophysics or in a related field are encouraged to apply. A successful postdoc candidate has a a PhD and strong background in a related field as shown by solid publication record in international peer-reviewed journals.Good communication skills and fluency in spoken and written English are required. Experience in working with membrane proteins, x-ray crystallography or modern cell biology methods will be considered an asset.
