IRISCC onsite autumn school: Climate risks data analysis & methods, 14-18 September 2026, Chania - Greece

Thank you for your interest to participate in the IRISCC onsite autumn school in Climate risks data analysis & methods, to be held at the Centre of Mediterranean Architecture, Chania (Greece) during 14-18 September 2026.

Information:

This five-day autumn school introduces researchers and data scientists to the tools, datasets, and methods needed to assess and quantify climate change risks.

The programme combines morning lectures on the first two days with hands-on mini-projects in small groups, giving participants practical experience working with real climate datasets from IRISCC's research infrastructures and demonstrators.

Participants will learn to access and process climate risk-related datasets, understand the modelling and simulation processes behind climate indicators, and conduct structured risk assessments with explicit treatment of uncertainties.

A field trip on Wednesday to an experimental site in Crete bridges classroom methods with real-world environmental monitoring — visiting instrumented agricultural fields that combine satellite and in-situ data for water balance and evapotranspiration estimation.

Mini-project topics are proposed by IRISCC demonstrator leaders, allowing participants to work on concrete science-driven challenges from the consortium. The school concludes with group presentations on Friday afternoon.

This onsite autumn school is co-organised by CERFACS and the Technical University of Crete (TUC), with instructors and data providers drawn from the IRISCC consortium.

Target audience:

This training is ideal for early-career and postdoctoral researchers and data scientists, but it is also appropriate for other researchers as well as engineers.
