About the seminar
How can a fundamental academic discovery develop into clinically relevant research and, eventually, contribute to new therapeutic approaches?
In this seminar, Olli Silvennoinen will reflect on the scientific journey of JAK kinases — from their academic discovery and early characterization to their role in disease biology and their relevance for clinical development.
The seminar will offer a first-hand perspective on how long-term basic research can open paths toward translational and clinical impact, and how scientific discoveries may evolve over time into broader therapeutic opportunities.
Topics and questions relevant to the seminar include:

how JAK kinases were originally discovered and why they became scientifically important;

how fundamental research on signaling mechanisms developed into clinically relevant knowledge;
