A Conjuncture of War. Capital and Power in a Multipolar World
Open lecture with Professor Sandro Mezzadra (University of Bologna) organized by the GGRIN-network of the Swedish School of Social Science, University of Helsinki.
In the lecture, Sandro Mezzadra discusses the current conjuncture of the world based on the forthcoming book The Rest and the West. Capital and Power in a Multipolar World (Verso, November 2024) cowritten with Brett Neilson. The talk will address the disruption of the international and world system analysing the persistent roles played by global processes in steering the workings of contemporary capitalism. Connecting to Mezzadra’s previous work on borders, mobility, and logistics the lecture delves into the current imbrication of “geopolitical” conflicts and “geoeconomic” shifts to test the notion of multipolarity for understanding the current formation of capital and power. The talk is framed by the discussion of the implications of the current predicament for social struggles and will be concluded with some reflections on the need of a new internationalism.
