The expert workshop brings together key stakeholders of LEAP4FNSSA to discuss the findings of two recently conducted studies on trade, innovation and entrepreneurship.
The trade study aimed at:
1. Understanding the current situation of AU-EU trade in the agri-food sector, spatial and temporal variability of the said trade, implications of inter-continental trade in Africa, future scenarios and their impacts on such trade, opportunities and threats of the current and future scenarios of inter and intra-continental trade on FNSSA;
2. Recommending research and innovation (R&I) initiatives to improve FNSSA through inter and intra- continental trade, as well as future research questions to assess the ability of such initiatives to improve FNSSA, enhance opportunities and reduce threats to achieving the SDGs.
The innovation and entrepreneurship study aimed at:
1. Understanding (i) how the current policies and practices for R&I on FNSSA trigger entrepreneurship growth particularly for women, youth, and vulnerable people as well, at various scales, and (ii) R&I instruments and initiatives that IRC should develop to promote entrepreneurship for socio-ecological resilience as well as improved FNSSA and livelihood
2. Recommending (i) further participatory research that bring R&I at scale to enhance socio-ecological resilience for improved FNSSA and livelihood, with particular focus on social inclusion, and (ii) roles of the IRC and various key stakeholders who in a way or another impact the AU-EU R&I partnership for improved FNSSA and livelihood.
The expert workshop brings together key stakeholders of LEAP4FNSSA to discuss the findings of the two studies and share experience to enrich the recommendations and lay a strong foundation of the envisaged IRC on FNSSA. It will be held in Accra (Ghana) at the campus of the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) on Tuesday 13 September 2022 from 9:00am to 4:00pm (local time; GMT). A hybrid approach will be used, i.e. participation in-person or online. We invite you to register and show your interest to participate in-person or online. Registered participants will receive updates about the workshop in due course, including details of the location for the in-person participants.
