Microglia and Current Technologies (NEUBM-211, 3 ECTS)

Time/Place: 26th March – 13th May, 2025 (6 contact sessions in Viikki)

Target group: PhD researchers, MSc students, scientists with interest in microglial biology

Content

The core comprises of 7 lectures (by national and international experts):

Introduction to microglial biology, function, and nomenclature (Vassilis Stratoulias, Helsinki)

Tools to study microglia (Vassilis Stratoulias, Helsinki)

Drug discovery (James Keaney, Roche)

Development (Ahmed Osman, Karolinska Institute)

Zebrafish (Valerie Wittamer, ULB)

Human stem cell derived microglia (Taisia Rolova, Helsinki)

Microglia in Neurodegeneration (Miguel Burguillos, Sevilla)

Microglia in brain cancer (Lily Keane, Cork)

Teaching

Combination of lectures, pre- and post-lecture assignments.

Pre-assignments are based on research articles

Post-lecture assignments include poster preparation and reflective journals
