FinnGen Analysis Proposal Form

This form must be filled in by FinnGen investigators, and then approved by FinnGen Partners, for any new analysis involving FinnGen data for which:

- publication may be intended
- sharing of non-public FinnGen results with investigators outside of FinnGen may be required
- downloads of FinnGen results from Sandbox is needed
- support from FinnGen IT/analysis team may be required

BEFORE you fill-in the proposal, please check the list of approved FinnGen analysis proposals for possible overlapping proposals. In case your analysis plan is identical/similar to an already approved proposal, you may contact the key investigator of the proposal for collaboration.

Upon approval of your proposal, a FinnGen Analysis Proposal Index will be granted as a reference for the above services.

Exploration of FinnGen data in Sandbox with appropriate access may be performed, but none of the above mentioned items can be pursued without an approval through this process.

However, EA3 data is to be used only as stated in the respective EA3 study plan and needs to be discussed separately with the EA3 study group and FinnGen admin team. Results sharing

All FinnGen research must adhere to the FinnGen Scientific Plan and its amendments. Please familiarize yourself to the FinnGen Scientific Plan and its amendment before submitting this proposal. FinnGen data is allowed to be used only for research determined in the Scientific Plan.

All analyses done using FinnGen data must also have articulated scientific purpose and potential to produce publishable results.

FinnGen analysis results are subjected to a one year embargo or “exclusivity period” for FinnGen Partners and only after that can be made available to the larger scientific community. This is described in the FinnGen Consortium Agreement signed by all FinnGen Partner organizations. The embargo is defined as the period of 12 months after each Data Freeze has been released to the FinnGen Partners. Data Freezes and data releases are done twice a year. During the embargo period, the analysis results are available only to FinnGen Partner organizations. These analysis results may be published as a part of a manuscript / abstract / poster, but the FinnGen Scientific Committee must first approve the release of these results, following similar practices as the Citing FinnGen. Once your proposal have been approved and you have finalized the analysis, please contact finngen-admin@helsinki.fi for guidance on how to share the results and acknowledge FinnGen in the publication. Note also that the final manuscript needs to be circulated to the FinnGen Scientific Committee (please reserve three weeks for the internal review process before submission)

Will public sharing of FinnGen results be required ?

FinnGen is a research project and all analyses must have scientific purpose and potential to be published.

The final results shall be shared with the FinnGen Partners (once final).

The final manuscript shall be shared with the FinnGen Scientific Committee.

For meta-analyses, summary stats w/ and w/o FinnGen results shall be shared with FinnGen Partners (once ready).

All analyses using FinnGen individual level data is used to achieve FinnGen scientific plan goals, upon a positive decision by FinnGen Partners.

Anonymized results might be used for collaborative studies where they are combined with results from other studies.

There is 12 mo embargo for the FinnGen data and only after that the results can be made available to the larger scientific community.

All individuals listed have agreed to be part of the proposal.

You understand you take on the responsibility for project analysis with the staff listed on the application. FinnGen core team does NOT provide custom analysis service, though of course the approved project gives you access to the required IT support needed to execute it - if you need analysis help you should identify a partner beforehand.
